I must say that creating crafts cute enough to display in my own home was never something I thought I would do. I was a firm believer that I didn’t have a crafting bone in my body. Growing my mom and aunts would get together to make festive wreaths, holiday décor, and even homemade gifts for other family and friends. I tried to be crafty many times but always ended up frustrated and giving up with a half-finished design and loads of frustration.
I loved creating Pinterest boards full of what I planned to make, ya know, one day when I miraculously became crafty. I spent money and followed the tutorials to a “T” but they never seemed to turn out right. The back corner of my garage became a pile of supplies that gave the entire Pinterest fails website a run for their money. I tried and tried but things never came out the right shape or the colors just didn’t look the same as they did in the pictures. Needless to say, I thought my dreams of crafting had come to an end.
One evening I was whining to my husband about how I needed a hobby. I couldn’t see to find something productive to do for myself. He asked if I had ever thought of attending a craft class where there was a teacher to assist. I honestly hadn’t. I drove past the Wood Creations Ogden location everyday on my way to and from work and saw classes offered on the signs many times. The next day on my way home I stopped in to inquire about classes. To my dismay they didn’t have any scheduled at the time. The lady in there asked what type of craft I was looking for in the class and I explained to her my lack of ability. She explained to me how easy doing the crafts in there was and showed me to a particularly cute one!!
I took home a reindeer cut out, some wood stain, red paint, and some glitter. She let me take a picture of the craft all finished and showed me how to find the exact colors of paint and glitter. She told me if I had any issues come back the next day and she would help me.
After my girls went to bed I laid out the supplies I had purchased and started to paint the perfectly cut out shapes. It was so easy. I didn’t have to measure, I didn’t have to cut, and I didn’t have to wonder why it was a different color than the example. I the pieces dry overnight and in the morning they looked even more beautiful than I had remembered. I glued on the nose and strung the precut wire through the precut holes.
The next day I returned to the store and when I walked in the lady looked a little nervous. She asked me how it went and I replied, “Oh my gosh it was so easy and turned out so cute, I’m actually here to get two more for Christmas presents!”
And so began my love with crazy easy crafts. I love that there are always fresh designs that I don’t have to come up with, cut, or even coordinate colors.
